Art & Music Italia’s Art Program welcomes students of all levels, from beginner to advanced. The curriculum will be designed to accommodate students’ indicated preferences and interests.
We will visit various historical landmarks and museums, such as the museum at Paestum which houses the famous monument, Tomb of the Diver. Students will learn firsthand bout the area’s rich ancient art history.
Students will take part in a closing exhibition of works created during their stay, from planning, organization, and installation of art work. There will be at least two exhibitions of student work during the summer camp.
En plein air painting.
Students will work outdoors directly from nature in, and around, San Marco di Castellabate, learning to incorporate organizational principles such as linear perspective, atmospheric perspective, and unity in landscape painting. We will explore multiple techniques in water-based paints such as water color, gouache, and acrylics. Techniques will include mixing mediums, glazing, using masking fluid, wet on wet, and dry brush.
Drawing sketchbooks will be used on a daily basis and will include works in pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, and oil pastel. Students will learn techniques in drawing from life. Students will also be encouraged to draw from their own inspirations and experiences on the trip.
Mixed Media & Assemblage.
Students will be encouraged to explore found object materials to include in their works
Sculpture & Land-Art.
Students will have an opportunity to work alone and in teams to create 3D pieces influenced by the environment.
Critique & Supportive Sharing
Students will reflect and evaluate their own work and the work of their peers on a daily basis within a supportive, welcoming environment.
In collaboration with the musical improvisation classes and ensemble classes, students make art in response to music as it is performed by our music students.
